This small, not-for-profit, community run school is looking for a Primary Grade 5/6 Teacher (10-13 year olds) to join them from August 2015.

Applicants must have a degree in education and ideally have International Primary Curriculum/Cambridge Curriculum experience though they will consider applicants with other curriculum experience. Applicants should have post qualification teaching experience and must be fluent English speakers. They are looking for teachers who are outgoing, adaptable and committed to professional growth. Teachers should hold a philosophy of teaching and learning which places emphasis on student autonomy. Teachers should be comfortable working in multi-level classrooms and should have experience planning lessons which promote active participation and learning.

Starting salary is between US $23,000 - 27,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Housing is provided (family housing for those teachers with dependents), flights at beginning and end of contract plus one flight home annually. There is also a relocation benefit and medical cover.

The school was first established in 1982. It is a small (93 pupils) not-for-profit school offering the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and Cambridge Primary (Literacy and Maths). They cater for children from toddler through to Year 6 (11 years of age) and has Toddler and Infants, Pre-School and Kindergarten, and Primary classes. Class sizes are kept small (the maximum size is 22) and each class has two teachers (one native English speaking qualified and experienced expatriate teacher and one university qualified local teacher.

The school is a community run school - there is no private owner, rather the school is "owned" and run by a Foundation and Board of parents. It is run as a non-profit organisation - parents are often involved in school activities and there is very much a "family feel". Every class has 'excursions' once a term and there are also many joint PTA-school events such as the Movie Night, Book Week, Christmas Concert and End of Year Party.There are also a number of extra-curricular activities on offer such as cooking, netball, badminton, tennis, swimming, soccer, maths, arts and crafts, choir and sewing.

Semarang is a small city (by Indonesian standards) which has all the facilities of a city without the bustle of Jakarta. It is located close to more tourist-oriented towns such as Yogyakarta and Jepara, so there are plenty of destinations for weekend get-a-ways. There is a small but strong ex-pat community. There are plenty of opportunities to meet other expats through weekly Hash events and the Semarang International Community, which often runs social events such as an annual Christmas party.
