Effective with the release of this position announcement,

Winrock International is recruiting applicants for the

Jakarta-based position of Indonesia
Palm Oil Sustainability Expert. The

responsibilities, duties, and qualifications are described in

the attached position description.

POSITION DESCRIPTION



Position Title: Indonesia Palm Oil Sustainability Expert



LOCATION: Jakarta, Indonesia



Department: Forestry and Natural Resource Management Unit



Reports to: Chief of Party



POSITION SUMMARY



Winrock International is recruiting an Indonesia Palm Oil

Sustainability Expert around an anticipated USAID-funded

project. This position will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The

anticipated project will address the constellation of market

forces, financial incentives, policy levers, social norms and

values driving deforestation and biodiversity loss in Indonesia

in order to promote changes in individual and organizational

behavior to reduce greenhouse gas GHG emissions and conserve

valuable marine and terrestrial biodiversity nationwide. The

Indonesia Palm Oil Sustainability Expert is expected to guide

technical program activities in the palm oil sector by working

in close partnership with the private sector, signatories of

the Indonesian Palm Oil Pledge, Government of Indonesian

Ministries, relevant business associations such as the Chamber

of Commerce (KADIN) and the Indonesian Palm Oil Association

(GAPKI), and major Indonesian banks. Responsibilities include,

but are not limited to, supporting the Ministry of Agriculture

and relevant partners in development, promotion, and adoption

of the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) mandatory

sustainability standard and to engage in development of best

practices, policies, and standards for plasm or smallholder

suppliers.



RESPONSIBILITIES



1.Support the Ministry of Agriculture and

relevant partners in development, promotion, and adoption of

the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) sustainability

standard.



· Build capacity for core actors to make sound, informed

decisions.



· Examine and strengthen specific ISPO sustainability

standards.



· Assist in facilitating the adaptation of best practices by

companies, government stakeholders, and financial institutions.



· Leverage successes in other extractive forest industries,

including pulp and paper, to coordinate opportunities.



2.Engage in development and support of

national sustainability standards, policies, and best practices

for palm oil plasma or smallholder suppliers.



· Assist large palm oil companies in promoting best management

practices for smallholders and other suppliers operating in

their area, including developing and organizing pilot programs.



· Support for developing smallholder capacities to conduct low

cost compliance audits.



The applicant will be required to:



· Travel within Indonesia on visits expected to be 1-2 weeks

long;



· Hold weekly project update meetings with the Indonesia Team

Leader, based in Jakarta;



· Oversee project activities to ensure smooth management and

timely implementation;



· Closely follow the implementation plan and monitor each

deliverable;



· Represent Winrock at meetings and conferences as needed, in a

professional manner;



· Address and proactively identify problems and challenges.



QUALIFICATIONS



Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:


  • 10 years of relevant experience in palm oil and other

    agribusiness sector with a deep understanding of issues around

    sustainability.

  • Palm / rubber / cocao / forest products sector experience.


· Experience working with businesses to incorporate

sustainability into production.



· Knowledgeable of current government, donor, and private

sector initiatives, such as Forest Investment Program (FIP),

Norwegian government’s REDD+ investments, Indonesia Palm Oil

Pledge, ect.



· Familiar with industry certification standards such as

Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) initiative and

Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).



· Experience facilitating meetings and consensus building.



· Ability to build and maintain strong and effective

relationships with multiple stakeholders in Indonesia.



· Exposure to “green lending” and related practices across

financial institutions an asset.



· Exceptional communication skills, including writing.



· Fluent in Bahasa and English strongly preferred.



· Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Forestry, Natural Resource

Management, International Development, or related field.
