Development (Fundraising) Intern - World Resources Institute - Washington, DC

Overview

World Resources Institute is seeking an outstanding, organized Development (Fundraising) Intern to support the Development Department with fundraising efforts including donor research, database management, monitoring calls for proposals (i.e. procurement notifications), event support, and other activities.

This internship will provide significant insight into and understanding of various aspects of non-profit fundraising in a variety of sectors. Additionally the intern will learn the due diligence process and associated research involved in forming funding relationships with corporate donors. The intern will also receive considerable exposure to the programs at WRI. The intern will have the opportunity to attend “brown bags” and presentations by in-house and external experts in various fields related to environment, development, and communications. The large number of interns and young staff present a collegial and engaging working environment.


Responsibilities

The intern will gain experience in the following areas:


  • Conducting research

  • Drafting briefings on prospective donors to WRI—including foundations, US/foreign government agencies, multilateral institutions, corporations, and individuals using online sources

  • Monitoring government web portals to identify prospective calls for proposals

  • Updating and accessing funder database (Raiser’s Edge)

  • Creating and editing mailing lists

  • Assisting in preparing and sending out electronic and hard copy communications to WRI’s donors

  • Assisting with donor mailings and special events

  • Supporting Development Coordinators as needed

  • Developing documents outlining government sector processes


Qualifications

  • Degree: Bachelor’s Degree. Position is also open to college seniors.

  • Excellent research skills

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Must be proficient with complete Microsoft Office suite

  • Familiarity and experience with fundraising, database management, and writing experience is a plus

  • Applicants should possess a high degree of professionalism and have a strong attention to detail

  • Strong time management skills and comfort juggling multiple projects. Position involves coordinating with up to five sectors simultaneously

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team

Final candidate will be required to take a writing test

Salary: This is a paid intern position

Duration: 6 months
