The Communications Director will be a senior leader on our North America team, crafting our brand building strategies through high-impact media campaigning, media relations, and marketing. You’ll tell stories of people power, amplifying the ability of individuals to shape society for the better, and inspiring millions to believe in their own potential. You’ll make a huge impact as you help millions of people start and successfully run their own local campaigns for positive social change.


Here’s what you’ll do as part of our team:
You will be responsible for devising and implementing comprehensive and effective strategies for the continued growth of the Change.org brand in the US and Canada.

With management responsibility for our North American communications team, you will oversee national media outreach on behalf of the grassroots campaigns that develop daily on Change.org.

With your network of senior media contacts you will build high level relationships which can support the development of our brand as the leading platform for people-powered change in the US and Canada.

Identify and execute on strategies and tactics to tell compelling stories of success, people power, and impact through Change.org.

Design and execute rapid-response social change advocacy campaigns in partnership with other stakeholders, with the potential for explosive growth and swift victories.

Establish and maintain deep partnerships with leading NGOs, established media outlets, influential online outlets, celebrities, social media leaders and bloggers.

Engage with different content publishers (i.e. print media, broadcast media, online media, etc.) to communicate campaign messages and organizational communications.

Assessing and mitigating communications and brand risk, and maintaining the reputation of the Change.org brand in the North America.

Manage the External Affairs team, ensuring they are building and managing relationships with mission-critical political leaders, government officials, leaders in the non-profit and advocacy sectors, and leaders in the private sector to support engagement with Change.org that drives campaign victories and the Change.org brand.

Collaborate with a global team of campaigns and communications experts to help shape the direction of Change.org internationally. And here are the skills & experience we hope you have:

Professional fluency in written and spoken English.

Innovative ideas on how to use communications, media and storytelling to win local, national and international campaigns – and a willingness to take risks, to fail, and to adapt.

Insightful understanding of messaging and framing, and the judgment to repeatedly find the right message to engage Change.org users, decision makers, journalists and other stakeholders.

High level experience of working in a fast pace politics, tech or news environment.

Experience of working alongside CEOs and leaders and supporting them in drafting op-eds, media quotes, presentations and speeches.

You should enjoy working in an online environment, using social media and collaborating using online tools.

Proficient leadership and persuasiveness skills. You’ll be able to inspire people to understand the possibilities of people-powered change.

A track record of good judgment. You’re able to make sound decisions in fast-moving situations.

Experience of managing teams in a fast paced politics, tech or news environment.

Excellent rapport-building and relationship skills. You can effectively build and maintain partnerships.
