Corporate Tax Accountant...
Our client is a leading Finance and Insurance company.
Increased growth has led to the opening of a new role for a Corporate Tax Accountant to join their Potters Bar based operation:
Job Role:
To ensure compliance by the uk division with its uk tax reporting obligations other than in respect of corporation tax.
Dimensions of the role:
PAYE/N.I.C payments £200m pa; output vat £17m pa; stamp duty land tax £4m pa; tax deductions at source £2m pa (supported by one direct report (shared with the corporate tax manager).
Duties:
* Quarterly VAT reporting by the UK division (inc Isle of Man)
- Application of detailed understanding of VAT legislation to our operations
- Supervision of regular compilation of data process by the CTO
- Provision of advice to the business on VAT legislation
- Maintain compliance procedures to ensure VAT is properly dealt with by the business
- Supervision over accounting control for VAT income and expense
- Main point of contact with HMRC on VAT matters
* VAT partial exemption recovery process
- Application of detailed understanding of VAT PE rules to our operations
- Ensure existing PE process continues to be most appropriate for the business
- Supervision of compilation of data process by the CTO
- Negotiate any changes in process with HMRC
* Submission of miscellaneous tax returns on behalf of the UK division
- Application of detailed understanding of overseas premium tax and UK tax deductions at source legislation to our operations
- Supervision of return preparation process by CTO
- Main point of contact with HMRC and overseas tax authorities on these returns
* Employer tax compliance support to HR and other business functions
- Provision of advice to HR and other departments on tax compliance requirements (including PAYE) in respect of employees
- Supervision of preparation of annual PSA return by CTO
- Main point of contact with HMRC on employer tax matters
Candidate Criteria:
* Detailed knowledge of VAT tax legislation as applicable to the financial services industry including partial exemption, cross border and property transactions. Fully conversant with employee income tax legislation
* Good knowledge of PAYE operational requirements
* Understanding of insurance premium taxes and stamp duty land tax legislation
* Understanding of chargeable events regime
* Understanding of tax deductions at source legislation
* Practical experience of using mainframe and pc computer systems
* Communication skills - including ability to explain complex tax technical matters to non-specialists
* Staff supervisory experience
* Auditing experience in relation to sophisticated computer systems
* Report writing skills
* Experienced negotiator with HMRC
* Experience of working in the life assurance industry
* Comfortable dealing with individuals at all levels within an organisation
* Good knowledge of PAYE operational requirements
* Understanding of insurance premium taxes and stamp duty land tax legislation
QUALIFICATIONS
* Fully qualified accountant (ICA, ACCA etc)
* Educated to degree standard
