Job Description:
We are currently undergoing an expansion and are seeking an Analyst for our office in Jakarta, Indonesia to drive core components of Transformasi’s Marine and Fisheries Program. The Analyst role is content focused, and candidates should be highly familiar with the marine and fisheries sector and have experience developing policy recommendations.
The Analyst’s key responsibilities include preparing policy recommendations, issue briefs, and white papers; commissioning and managing third-party research for the Marine and Fisheries Program; and acting as a key contact point between Transformasi’s consultants, experts, and donors.
The Analyst will also be responsible for expanding Transformasi’s presence in Indonesia’s marine and fisheries sector. This will require continuous participation in the public debate as well as building a large network of contacts among government officials, local and international NGOs, universities, research institutions, fisheries experts and private sector actors.
About the Transformasi Roundtable Series (TRS):
A key activity under Transformasi’s Marine and Fisheries Program is the Transformasi Roundtable Series (TRS), which aims to facilitate stakeholder consultations in order to develop and recommend policy reforms in the Indonesian fisheries sector. Supported by a network of experts, practitioners, and decision-makers, TRS will produce recommendations that are impact-driven and fact-based. The support network aims to also provide the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) with access to knowledge sources for evidence-based policy making.
TRS is an ongoing priority activity in our Marine and Fisheries Program, with the first two topics slated to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2015 and an additional two in 2016. Each topic discussed in TRS will undergo a process that includes focus group discussions, commissioned research, larger public conferences, and public communication.
Desired experience and qualifications:
• A Master’s Degree in Environmental Sustainability, Marine and Fisheries, Public Policy, International Relations, Political Economics, or other relevant political and/or economics subjects
• Two years minimum experience in a consultancy, think tank, or relevant organization where the candidate produced evidence-based policy recommendations
• Native or near fluent in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, and strong writing skills in both languages
• Strong networking skills to maintain and expand Transformasi’s profile in the marine and fisheries sector
• The ability to connect complicated economic and scientific concepts into short, well-written policy papers
• Experience in the marine and fisheries sector
• A strong understanding of political economy and natural resource management as the basis for preparing policy recommendations
• Excellent organizational and event planning skills with attention to detail
Responsibilities include:
• Producing written content in the form of policy recommendations, issue briefs, white papers, blogs, and social media content
• Networking and outreach to maintain and expand Transformasi’s connections with government officials, local and international NGOs, universities, research institutions, fisheries experts and private sector actors
• Driving and coordinating planning between Transformasi, consultants, experts, and donors in designing each TRS topic
• Coordinating and managing any commissioned research according to the Scope of Work for each TRS topic
• Managing logistics and event management of each TRS (e.g. propose budget and manage invitations and venue for each Focus Group Discussion)
• Preparing written reports, public output, and internal documentation of meetings, programming, and activities within the Transformasi Marine and Fisheries Program
• Supporting other activities and key initiatives underway within Transformasi as needed
