Commercial Gas Manager - Sempra LNG - Houston, TX

Sempra LNG ( www.SempraLNG.com ) leads Sempra Energy’s initiatives to develop, construct and operate liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminals and natural gas liquefaction facilities. Since 2004, Sempra LNG has developed two LNG regasification terminals and a natural gas liquefaction export facility. Sempra LNG also manages 3.7 Mtpa of LNG supply from Tangguh in Indonesia. Sempra LNG developed one of the first liquefaction facilities in the U.S. at the site of its existing Cameron LNG regasification terminal in Louisiana. The Cameron Liquefaction Project ( www.CameronLNG.com ), a 3-train $10 billion investment by affiliates of Sempra LNG (50.2%), Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (16.6%), GDF SUEZ S.A. (16.6%) and Mitsubishi Corporation (through a company jointly established with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK)) (16.6%), will have a nominal capacity of 13.5 Mtpa. Construction commenced in July 2014 and full commercial operations of all three trains is expected by the end of 2018. Sempra LNG also developed and operated the first LNG regasification terminal on the west coast of Mexico, Energia Costa Azul, which commenced operations in 2008 with 7.4 Mtpa of capacity.
Sempra LNG has initiated the development of potential liquefaction projects including Cameron Train 4/5 Expansion project, a liquefaction project at its Port Arthur, Texas site, and a liquefaction project at the site of the Energia Costa Azul LNG regasification terminal in Mexico. Additionally, Sempra LNG is evaluating additional regasification and related infrastructure projects in support of its LNG business.
Primary purpose of the Commercial Gas Manager is to support commercial and operational activity for development of Sempra LNG portfolio projects. This position will be located in Houston, TX.
- Commercial and operational support for Sempra LNG portfolio projects
- Originate, manage, and support commercial & operational activity relating to long term feed gas, including commissioning feed gas supply, for development of Sempra LNG portfolio projects.
- Assist in design, implementation, and startup of reporting systems to capture project management milestones and progress for resolution of LNG infrastructure development issues and Customer questions and issues.
- Work proactively with Sempra affiliates in developing gas supply, storage, and transportation solutions to manage variable feed gas profile requirements to meet LNG production and other infrastructure performance objectives.
- General support of project development function
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective transportation service providers, gas suppliers and storage service providers, including producers, marketers, shippers, interstate pipeline and storage companies, intrastate pipeline and storage companies and local distribution and utility companies.
- Maintain current knowledge of regional gas markets, regional gas flows, values, potential customers, regional competition & risks and open season results and function as subject matter expert on natural gas pipeline transportation, supply and storage acquisition and management.
- Negotiate and support execution of precedent agreements, pipeline transportation service, gas supply, and storage service agreements.
- Support new business development projects in the areas of gas supply, marketing, and transportation issues.

External Qualifications:
- Education –
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or analytical discipline. An MBA or an equivalent advanced degree is considered a plus.
- Experience –
- Minimum of 10-15 years in commercial operations of U.S. natural gas pipeline transportation and storage services and related gas supply and marketing activity.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S gas infrastructure, including pipeline and storage operations, FERC regulations, commercial operations of inter and intra state pipelines and NAESB (North American Energy Standards Board) gas nomination schedules.
- Experience in natural gas pipeline commercial operations in conjunction with LNG infrastructure projects is a big plus.
- Detailed working knowledge of gas transportation and storage contracts, pipeline tariffs, nomination and scheduling procedures, ability to read commercial contracts as an advocate for the company’s goals. Ability to understand different asset management structures and translate this knowledge into business risk and value propositions.

- Self-motivated and able to lead and work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Ability to independently arrive at sound conclusions and recommendations.
- Proficiency in use of economic and financial models, spreadsheets, word processing, and other computer based systems.
- Proficiency in standard business software platforms including Project Management and MS Office software applications.
- Requirements –
- Domestic and international travel for 15% to upwards of 25% during the development of projects
