Energy, Climate & Finance Web-Design Intern - World Resources Institute - Washington, DC
The WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities seeks an accomplished web-design intern with interest in sustainable urban issues to prototype a web-based tool. The intern will take an important role in the design, mock-up, and testing of the prototype tool. The work has technical and creative dimensions, as well as an important part involving gathering input, presenting work in progress and incorporating feedback from users in a collaborative process.
The intern will be based in the Energy & Climate practice area of the WRI Ross Center and support a specific project, which is a collaboration with Citi Foundation and C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. The project focuses on helping cities, capital providers, and providers of infrastructure and equipment, take service delivery in the building and transport sectors beyond business as usual by developing approaches to delivering urban services that meet the vital needs of citizens and local businesses while also having local and global benefits.

Responsibilities
This position will be especially interesting to persons with an interest in applying experience with web-design and knowledge management to environmental issues, with a focus on sustainable cities. The scope of information will relate to equitable urban development, efficient buildings, sustainable mobility, local economic development, urban finance and business models for sustainable services. The intern will gain experience in the following areas:
- Playing an integral role in developing a web-based platform for a new tool that is being developed
- Developing and implementing a user-centric design process for development of the tool
- Soliciting input from a wide range of stakeholders
- Developing a web-based tool, from conception and mock-ups to piloting with users and launching
- Preparing and delivering presentations, including potentially training
- Developing processes and mechanisms to collect and organize a broad range of digital information
- Work with staff in DC and in international offices to coordinate work and provide support (may include offering training)
- Undertaking research activities using technical and professional journals and publications, the internet, library databases, etc., to extract and summarize information
In addition, responsibilities may involve contributing to blogs, providing general administrative support, reviewing publications, assisting in organizing and analyzing data, editing/proofreading, etc.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science, Computer Science, Information & Knowledge management, Finance, Environmental Science, Urban and Regional Economics and planning, or a related field.
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in a related field
Candidates should possess the following qualities:
- Demonstrated experience with front end web development
- Knowledge and experience in design thinking
- Interest in developing a user-centered design project
- Excellent research, writing and presentation skills
- Strong oral communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to think creatively
- Ability to work with a diverse team that is geographically dispersed
- Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
- Flexible
- Interest in urban issues
- Highly responsible, self-motivated
- Extremely well organized and efficient
- Must have authorization to work in the U.S. in order to apply for this position.

Salary: This is a paid intern position with an hourly rate based on experience.
Duration: 6 months (October 2015-March 2016)
