Senior Associate - Climate Policy Initiative - San Francisco, CA

POSITION SUMMARY

The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (The Lab) is a global initiative that supports the identification and piloting of cutting edge climate finance instruments. It aims to drive billions of dollars of private investment into climate change mitigation and adaptation in developing countries. To date, the climate finance instruments developed by The Lab have been endorsed by the G7, have collectively already raised nearly $200 million in much needed capital for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and land use, and are expected to mobilize billions more for on-the-ground results.


For the last year, Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) has served as Secretariat for The Lab. CPI is looking for a talented and a motivated individual at Senior Associate level to project manage The Lab. This position is a key role in the initiative and over the next year will work to help shape and launch the Second Lab Cycle, incorporating learning and experiences from the First Lab Cycle. This role is a great opportunity for a self starter with at least 3-5 years of professional experience to be part of a small but high-impact team working on one of the world’s most pressing issues. Strong candidates will demonstrate excellent project management, client relations, and stakeholder engagement skills, experience in energy, finance, or policy analysis, the ability to work collaboratively and to take direction, and the ability to work under deadlines. Exceptional candidates are strong communicators, self-driven, and bring experience in the energy and climate context. A sense of humor is a plus.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Includes the following and other duties as assigned:
Support strategy setting and forward planning for The Lab


Manage ongoing relationships with funding partners, ensuring that funding partners weigh in on key decisions


Manage ongoing relationships with Lab Members, ensuring continued engagement into analytical processes, events, and their eventual support for instrument outputs


Coordinate a team of analysts who will lead the analysis and development of The Lab’s innovative financial instruments, ensuring that analyst work is on time and at high quality


Partner with CPI’s communications team to develop and maintain The Lab brand, coordinate on key launches and events, ensure high-quality external products, and communicate with both Lab Members and broader set of audiences in the global policy, energy, and investment communities


Plan and coordinate events to engage Lab Members at key points in the process (organization of venue, preparation of agendas and briefing material, drafting of meeting summaries)


General program support and other duties as required


QUALIFICATIONS


At least three to five years of professional experience managing projects for government, business, and/or NGOs


BS or BA required with coursework in policy and economics. Possession of a Master’s Degree or higher is a plus.

TITLE AND COMPENSATION


CPI is hiring for one full-time position, open immediately. The position will be located in San Francisco, but may require occasional international travel. Title and competitive compensation will be based on experience.
