ACICIS’ Creative Arts and Design Practicum Program Development Officer

Option1a

Job Description

ACICIS’ CREATIVE ARTS AND DESIGN PRACTICUM PROGRAM

A position has become available within the Jakarta office of The Australian Consortium for ‘In-Country’ Indonesian Studies (ACICIS) for a Development Officer (DO) for ACICIS’ Creative Arts and Design Practicum Program (CADPP). This position would suit a graduate of a local or Australian university, with an interest and experience in digital arts and new media, web design, app building, graphic design, technological start-ups, the Australia-Indonesia relationship, and/ or digital education. Please note this position is open to Indonesian nationals (WNI) only.

ACICIS’ Creative Arts and Design Practicum Program (CADPP)

In the 21st century, Indonesia is a modern, industrial nation with a burgeoning local film industry, a vibrant domestic fashion industry, growing centres of graphic design, animation, and game-design, and thriving pop, rock and indie music scenes. Only a third of Indonesia’s 253 million people are currently connected to the Internet but the country’s connectivity rate is presently experiencing double-digit annual growth. In 2011, Indonesia’s creative industries generated approximately 7% of the country’s GDP making the sector one of the top ten largest sectors of the Indonesian economy. With the Indonesian government now actively fostering the development of high-tech start-ups and creative economy SMEs, as well as courting companies like Apple and Disney to consider relocation of their digital content production to Indonesia, the sector is likely to experience significant expansion over the next decade.

Supported by 2015 – 2016 Australian government New Colombo Plan funding, ACICIS’ Creative Arts and Design Practicum Program aims to expose Australian students to the vibrancy of contemporary Indonesian arts and cultural production, combining academic elements with hands-on practical creative production experience. The six-week practicum program consists of: two weeks of academic seminars and Indonesian language classes at an ACICIS Indonesian partner university, followed by a four-week industry-based professional practicum placement at a local Indonesian business in the creative and digital sector. The professional practicum placement will involve Australian students collaborating with Indonesian peers and creative practitioners to produce work including, but not limited to: short films, animations, sound and video art, websites, online installations, blogs and social media apps.
