Perform a variety of complex engineering duties in the design, modification or adaptation of a part of a major engineering project. Develop novel approaches and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities. Plan and conduct surveys, tests, or investigations, interpret results, and prepare recommendations, summaries, schedules, and cost estimates. Meet with representatives of other departments to coordinate planning and scheduling activities. Schedule and coordinate the work of project members in order to complete work on time and within budget parameters. Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work for major projects which may involve complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and difficult coordination requirements. Understand accounting principles with respect to income statements and balance sheets. Perform financial analysis on projects. Collaborate in developing budgets, forecasts, and business plans. Assist in AFE preparation. Assist with other special projects which may include due diligence of M&A targets, managing growth projects, evaluating cost reduction or production increasing opportunities, and identifying contingency plans to adapt to changes in the economy. Assist with preparation of optimal life-of-mine plans including: utilize the in-house developed Optimizer mixed integer and linear programming (MILP) based software, maintain its integrity, and modify programming and algorithms when changes occur in the operations being modeled. Formulate MILP models to identify and analyze optimal timing and rates for mining deposits, mill blending strategies, and alternative long-range business strategies.


Qualifications

Requires a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mining and Earth Systems Engineering. Post-bachelor’s experience is required (3 years with Master’s or 5 years with Bachelor’s), and must include: strategic planning and budgeting/financial analysis for large scale, multi-site (3+), multi-process (3+) operations utilizing Visual Basic and macros; development and monitoring of project controls (cost estimates/budget control /project schedule); and development and monitoring of key performance indicators. This position also requires education or experience in life of mine production scheduling optimization using mathematical optimization techniques including linear programming.
