Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Durable Solutions Officer and the overall supervision of the Senior Protection Officer, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

1. Identify comprehensive solutions for individual Persons of Concern (PoCs) and undertake related case processing;

2. Provide counselling to PoCs with regard to the process and procedures for durable solutions;

3. Gather information from protection interviews related to all aspects of movements by sea, analyse the information gathered, and draft reports to share with the Associate Monitoring and Reporting Officer and other senior protection staff;

4. Assist in the repatriation process, where applicable, by identifying and registering PoCs who wish to repatriate voluntarily;

5. Conduct visits to community accommodation facilities and immigration detention centres to undertake case processing and provide counselling to PoCs as required;

6. Compile monthly inputs on activities, including statistics of PoCs under processing for durable solutions, and maintain individual records and case files;

7. Draft routine correspondence and reports;

8. Liaise with the authorities to obtain information and to facilitate formalities for applicable durable solutions;

9. Act as interpreter and translator when needed;

10. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications/Requirements :

Competencies: Analytical Thinking and Political Awareness

Education: Minimum completion of secondary education but preferably a university degree in Law, Social Work, Social Sciences, or related discipline.

Experience: Four (4) years of work experience in child protection or similar area, or in the wider human rights field. Experience working with children and in a multi-cultural environment or international context is an asset.

Nationality: Citizen of Indonesia; non-citizen with Indonesian permanent residence.

Languages: Excellent knowledge of English and Bahasa Indonesia (written and oral) highly essential; knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.

Desirable Skills: Good written and oral communication skills; computer literacy; good knowledge of child protection principles and UNHCR’s protection mandate; understanding of interviewing techniques, particularly with children; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Working Relationships

(i) Within UNHCR involving the exchange of a wide range of information;

(ii) With external parties: local authorities, NGOs, and international organizations.

Supervision Exercised and Guidance Given

On-the-job training will be provided to the successful candidate.
