Senior Campaigner - DC job - Change.org - Washington, DC

We have an exciting opening for an exceptional leader to join our team as a Campaign Director in the U.S. This is a leadership position on the campaigns team where you will play a critical role in identifying promising campaigns started by change.org users, and then work with a team to help these campaigns win through strategic advice, media outreach, and promotion across the web and to our users. The Campaign Director will work closely with, and report to, the Managing Director of North America.


Here’s what you’ll do as part of our team:
Lead a core part of the U.S. campaigns team, working with dozens of petition starters to develop their petition content to be distributed to millions of Change.org users. You will also hire and manage a core team of staff to support your portfolio of campaigns, including a Senior Campaigner, Media Campaigner, and up to three Interns.


Play a key role in making sure Change.org users create campaigns that become part of the national and cultural dialogue, through effective framing and messaging, creative escalation tactics, widespread media coverage, and collaboration with external groups and high-profile supporters.


Build and foster key relationships with a diverse set of organizations to help determine which narratives and campaigns have the biggest potential impact.


Be an inspiring leader within your own team and for the company-at-large. We want you to help us refine and enhance what’s currently working, and also bring new perspectives and creative thinking to the organization. Your presence here should make our entire campaigns function more effective in service of our users and the broader mission to empower people everywhere.


And here are the skills & experience we hope you have:
Excellent understanding of what makes a strong and widely appealing digital campaign, including demonstrated background in using personal narratives to tell great stories that resonate with media.


Experience being part of big, viral campaigns that gained widespread attention and created inspiring change.


Ability to coordinate across various teams to make sure we’re marshaling the necessary resources to maximize the impact of user campaigns and increase their chances of winning. In many cases this includes ensuring alignment between the communications, email, support, and external affairs teams.


Management and leadership skills to support and empower a small team. You’ll need to think strategically about allocating resources, setting goals, being an effective coach, and putting people in the right position to do their best work.


Desire to serve as a thought leader in the space of online organizing in politics, through external writing, presentations, panels, and evangelism to audiences of all sizes.


Willingness to take risks, fail, and adapt.
