Description
Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate
is a major cocoa bean originator and processor. It also produces industrial chocolate for the European market. The business offers a wide range of high-quality cocoa powder, butter and liquor products under the Gerkens® brand to leading manufacturers of food, chocolate and confectionery products worldwide. By varying quantities of different ingredients, Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate produces high-quality unsweetened, dark, milk and white chocolate, and coverture products, which are sold as commodities for use in industrial food applications. Products are sold through an international network of offices, agents and distributors. The business operates cocoa production facilities in the Netherlands, Germany, France, the U.K., Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, and chocolate plants in Belgium, France, Germany and the U.K. It originates cocoa beans from operations in Indonesia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Vietnam as well as through its joint venture in Cameroon.

This position provides an opportunity to join an exciting Cargill business unit that is growing organically as well as through the pending acquisition of ADM Chocolate. The location of this position is subject to candidate availability and BU need.
The Operations Accountant will be responsible for managing overall operations accounting processes and controls at assigned chocolate manufacturing facilities. This position will work closely with a highly engaged finance and operations accounting team to integrate new manufacturing facilities into the business, as well as to improve existing facilities and processes. Travel to respective facilities is expected on an intermittent and as needed basis. Major focuses will include plant expense accounting, product cost accounting, internal plant controls, yield reporting and plant period end close process, including responsibility for all related balance sheet accounts. This position will also be involved in BU financial and management reporting, and other projects and analysis on as needed basis. As part of overall development may also be exposed in the areas of trade and financial reporting.
Principle Accountabilities:
50%- Accounting Processes and Procedures
Leading plant accounting process, analyzing and forecasting manufacturing expenses, SAP plant product costing, performing plant period end close process and driving continuous improvement across all areas. Understanding plant processes and material costs in order to drive decisions that improve product profitability.
30%- Plant Controls
Monitor, maintain, and improve internal plant controls. Perform inventory and process audits. Develop and improve procedure documentation. Lead process improvement, particularly related to cost reduction, yield and efficiency improvement.
20%- Project Work
Other duties as assigned or special projects as assigned including; Monthly, quarterly, and annual BU financial and management reporting.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bacherlor’s Degree or higher in Accounting/Finance
- 1+ years accounting experience
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Ability to take action independently
- Highly motivated and self-directed
- Willing to work as part of a “hands on” team in a growing and changing BU
- Creative thinking and determination to improve business results
- Proven problem solver and solutions provider
- Ability to utilize data to drive decision making
- Ability to partner and influence to drive improvment
- Ability to travel up to 30%
- Ability to climb stairs, kneel, squat, bend and twist
- This position will be required to spend up to 20% of their time in a plant environment. Conditions in the plant reflect conditions of a food manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years accounting experience
- Experience using SAP
