PURPOSE:
Prepares, administers, organizes and develops supply chain category strategy programs for bulk commodities globally (primary and secondary). This role may also act as the business process expert for the stage gate process and drives integration into that process. Executes and administers commercial and contracts integration with key suppliers and key stakeholders globally (projects, operations, and maintenance) as well as deliverables for the Investment System, Stage Gate (stages 1-4) and operational readiness. Provides guidance to and develops other category managers.
Business Segments addressed through Category Management include:
Heavy Mining and Mobile Equipment or Bulk Commodities with emphasis on Fuel, Lubricants, Gas/Propane, Coal, Cyanide, Explosives. Other commodities under management include Lime, Cement, Chemicals, Grinding Media, Acids, Carbon.
Leads and manages the Bulk Commodities sourcing and supplier relationships:
Ultimately responsible for identification of cost savings and process/service improvement opportunities annually.
Develops and implements global procurement strategies for the commodities under management. This includes the leading the Directorate for the commodities under management by collaborating with Technical Services and the Operations supported.
Coordinates with the technical services, project and business services, projects teams in each region and with suppliers to evaluate bulk commodities commercially and technically for all projects globally.
Provides commodity commercial technical assistance to the projects and sites related to operational issues.
Establishes relationships with internal and external customers as technical expert related to all commodity issues.
Develops and manages business case documents, market intelligence report, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models, should cost and price discipline models for commodities under management.
Organizes, researches, and analyzes relevant commodity and product related information to lead and implement global, regional and local supply chain solutions.
Complies, analyzes, and maintains market intelligence data specific to the business segments and categories under management.
Manages relevant commodity, service and product information necessary to recommend global, regional and local supply chain solutions.
Identifies, develops and fosters strategic customer and supplier relationships.
Conducts customer requirement analysis to understand customers’ procurement needs and requirements and align these with corporate requirements.
Leads and facilitates the supply chain category Directorate as the business process expert, project manager, knowledge repository manager which enables the sites and projects to execute sourcing deliverables.
Reviews and analyzes statistical data for management reports.
Responsible for development of new contracts and reviews and provides recommendations/modifications for existing and developing contracts according to Corporate guidelines
Assists in development of global Supply Chain policies and initiatives.
Maintains awareness of market trends, conditions and changing technologies and produces reports.
Establishes category priorities based on benefits and opportunities.
Develops and tracks category performance metrics, purchasing customer satisfaction metrics and develops reports.
Collection of all metrics data for global category management team for monthly GCM scorecard.
Ensures that managed categories are in compliance with all Newmont policies and procedures (including GSM, S&ER and Health and Safety)
Increase integration with Stage Gate process:

Supports stage 1 and 2 of the stage gate process requirements and provides inputs

Supports with deliverables for stage 3 to 4 and operational readiness

Supports with the integration of GSM functional categories into the stage gate process

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work normally requires minimal physical effort.
Travel to domestic and international locations and sites required.
Qualifications
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Accounting or related field
Minimum 10-12 years direct experience in the mining industry; including mine operations, mine maintenance, mine planning, mining equipment supply, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A combination of domestic (US) and international experience is preferred
Significant knowledge of the mining industry, specifically either mining equipment or Bulk Commodities
Strong computer literacy (Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio) and Microsoft OS is required
Purchase/Contract negotiation and development skills strongly preferred
CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) is preferred
MBA is preferred
Strong communication skills (written & verbal)
