Over 100 million people have signed petitions, and our users win nearly one victory per hour, including strengthening hate crime legislation in South Africa; fighting corruption in Indonesia, Italy, and Brazil; ending the ban on gay Boy Scouts in the United States, and big wins for women’s rights in India. And we’re just getting started. Here’s a small snapshot of why some of the 100 million people have signed Change.org petitions: youtu.be/UcT1rgZDko4 As a US Outreach Specialist, here’s some of the work you’ll do:
Work with a team of campaigners, media, and email experts to support the people who start petitions on our platform — performing issue research, providing strategic advice, conducting media outreach, and promoting them across the web and to our members via email
Support campaigns staff by tagging petitions, reviewing newly started petitions, and initiating contact with petition starters
Support campaigns staff with strategies to escalate campaigns launched on Change.org, and help drive them toward victory
Work to develop social media posts and strategy to support petition starters who’ve launched campaigns on Change.org
Prepare drafts of press notes and press releases to support petition starters and the campaigns they start on Change.org
Work with campaigns staff to create offline organizing tactics to support petition starters’ efforts
Draft content for Change.org’s email list in collaboration with campaigners and email specialists
Help identify and manage the most significant campaign opportunities in the US Here’s a little bit more about skills and qualities we’re looking for:
A deep commitment to our mission of empowering people everywhere to win campaigns on the critical issues of our time.
Some experience working in a professional setting — preferably (but not required) in the media, with a company, or at a nonprofit. Recent grads welcome.
Excellent teamwork skills, with an interest in working collaboratively with multiple departments to execute on goals.
A familiarity and interest in the U.S. media landscape (news wonks desired!)
An interest in learning how to powermap a campaign opportunity with an eye toward getting decision makers to respond/
Strong task management skills, with an ability to follow directions from coworkers without heavy oversight, and to keep track of various tasks that are delegated.
A strong familiarity with online organizing tactics, including email and social media.
Experience working within diverse and marginalized communities, and a proven track record of success in bringing these issues to the fore in the public discourse.
A willingness to take risks, fail, and adapt.
Strong sense of fun, innovation, and give-and-take — our team is constantly pushing the envelope and each other to challenge assumptions, go all-in, and imagine the impossible.
This is a contract position for an initial three month period. The ideal candidate will be based in San Francisco, New York, or Washington, DC.
The job is often driven by a campaign cycle, so there are times that involve long hours and times that don’t.
