Product Designer - SF - Change.org - United States

Change.org is the world’s largest empowerment platform, used by more than 85 million people around the world to win incredible and inspiring victories on the issues they care about.

We’re an innovative business – a certified “B Corp” combining the structure of a business with a powerful sense of mission that drives our work. Over 25 million users have signed winning petitions, including strengthening hate crimes legislation in South Africa; fighting corruption in Indonesia, Italy, and Brazil; ending the ban on gay Boy Scouts in the United States, and big wins for women’s rights in India. And we’re just getting started. Here’s a small snapshot of what was changed last year: www.change.org/2014

We love serving our incredible users, and we love our staff too. We show it with very competitive salaries, five weeks of vacation, robust maternity and parental leave, an amazing culture, free language training (if you want it), and a high impact, low-ego team that can’t wait to learn from you and teach you what they know.

Here’s what you’ll do as part of our team:
Shape a big, meaningful product. Contribute to the planning of a massively impactful website—enabling scores of weekly victories worldwide—in a team small enough for your personal contributions to be seen.

Solve big problems. How can everyday people start social movements? How can technology shape government and social policy?

Work with great people. Collaborate start-to-finish in a product team, joining a product manager, researcher and engineers with whom you’ll understand, ideate and learn; grow with a supportive design team unabashedly nerdy about craft and finding the best solutions wherever they come from.

Carry designs from problems to prototypes to features that ship. Change.org product teams work together from the outset of a goal to seeing polished features regularly deployed to millions of people. This collaborative arrangement requires versatile product designers who like research and discovery, broad generation of UX possibilities, a good sense of brand and copy, and proficiency to assist engineers with clean front-end implementation.

Conduct product discovery with, and sometimes without the support of a User Researcher. Investigate how a problem has been addressed elsewhere; identify common UX patterns and practices; ask questions and proactively research the qualitative and quantitative data that will help you answer them.

Find the best design, where it comes from: generate lots of possibilities, seek lots of feedback, and present the rationale behind the options you think work best.

Participate in developing the Change.org CSS and component styleguide, which exists in the codebase (like Twitter Boostrap) and is collectively maintained by the design team

Wake up excited to work. You’re building the world’s largest platform for social change, empowering people everywhere to create the change they want to see. And here are the skills & experience we hope you have:

You’ve worked with a consumer web product (bonus if you also have experience working with internationalization and cross-device web apps).

You’re concerned with details and the craft of design, bringing age-old principles of good design to the modern web; irked, for example, when line-heights hurt readability. Above all you believe good form follows good function.

From Adobe Illustrator to Sketch to whatever you think does the job best, you’re tool agnostic, happy to learn new ones, and have enough front-end (HTML/CSS/JS) familiarity to collaborate with engineers on your team.

You’re a driven communicator who loves to work with people, and you’re ready to lead design on your product team in the context of a cohesive overall UX.

The position is full-time and located in San Francisco.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, physical disability, or length of time spent unemployed.

We are working for a world where no one is powerless, and where creating change is a part of everyday life. We’re just getting started, and we hope you’ll join us.
