Deputy Chief of Staff - NY or SF - Change.org - United States

Change.org is the world’s largest platform for social change, empowering more than 90 million users to win incredible and inspiring victories on the issues they care about.

We’re an innovative business – a certified “B Corp” that combines the structure of a business with a powerful sense of mission that drives our work. We’ve helped users win nearly 10,000 victories, including strengthening hate crimes legislation in South Africa; fighting corruption in Indonesia, Italy, and Brazil; ending the ban on gay Boy Scouts, and big wins for women’s rights in India. And we’re just getting started.

Change.org’s Chief of Staff team “ensures the trains run on time”: that the company executes relentlessly on its plans – or changes them when they need to. Reporting to our New York-based Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff will help drive company-wide strategic planning, ensure all teams push together to drive company priorities, and that the CEO & President are supported to lead the company. Here’s what you’ll do as part of our team:

Strategy & Analysis: Identify and answer strategic questions around our impact, growth, business model, finances, and structure. Support key decisions with business intelligence, research, structured problem solving, and cross-team consultation.

Execution: Ensure the company executes relentlessly on key initiatives and strategic priorities – including the effective use of goals, metrics and scorecards. Manage the execution of strategically important cross-team projects.

CEO & President support: Ongoing support to help both the CEO and President focus on their top priorities, prepare for key meetings, and conduct diligence on key business decisions.

Communication: Engage staff across Change.org in conversations about our impact, strategy, and plans. Facilitate open and transparent communication between leadership and the entire team.

Leadership Process: Ensure that our leadership teams (and their meetings) are focused on the areas of highest strategic importance. You are:

The kind of person who sees solutions everywhere (even when they are ‘outside the box’), then works tenaciously to make them happen.

A project manager passionate about making systems and organizations run smoothly.

Able to simultaneously grasp the ‘big picture’ and the ‘detail’, and link the two.

A lover of clear and well-structured communication.

Equally comfortable taking input or direction and working autonomously.

A lover of data and analytics, with an ability to systematically work through complex challenges. You have:

Demonstrated success leading large projects across teams or organizations (5-8 years of experience preferred at the more senior level).

Demonstrated success in a business intelligence or organizational strategy function.

A demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of skillsets and personalities to move the ball forward.

Strong skills in written communication: able to produce clear and well-structured memos and presentations.

Demonstrated success and a high comfort-level with facilitating discussions between multiple stakeholders with multiple opinions and experiences.

Experience with complex budgets, financial modeling, and/or revenue projections is a plus.

Our ideal candidate has spent ~3yrs at a top-tier consultancy (or comparably professional experience), as well as having senior experience working in a non-consulting role leading significant projects and/or teams.

This ideal candidate will be based in New York or San Francisco. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, physical disability, or length of time spent unemployed.

We love serving our incredible users, and we love our staff too. We show it with very competitive salaries, five weeks of vacation, an amazing culture, free language training, and a high impact, low-ego team that can’t wait to learn from you and teach you what they know.

We are working for a world where no one is powerless, and where creating change is a part of everyday life. We’re just getting started, and we hope you’ll join us!
