Coordinator, Cocoa


Job Description


This position will support Rainforest Alliance’s “Cocoa Revolution-High Yielding Climate-Smart cocoa farms” project by providing training on financial literacy and farmer business skills to local trainers and lead farmers in the two regions of the project (North Kolaka and North Luwu); and by providing follow up, coaching and support to all the projects’ training activities in the region the position is based.


Position Summary:
The project, funded by MCA-I and the private sector, is led by a consortium of Rainforest Alliance, Olam and GrowCocoa, and seeks to contribute to poverty reduction and climate mitigation and adaptation by incentivizing cocoa smallholders to adopt best land use management and business practices. These practices intend to support farmers increase their net cocoa income and household income stability; establish long-term commercial partnerships; reduce land-based greenhouse gas emissions; and increase carbon sequestration.


This position will be based in one of the two project regions and will coordinate closely with the Manager, Business Training, with the Field Coordinator, Cocoa, who will be based in the other project region, and with the project’s M&E associate.


Responsibilities:
• Support the “Cocoa Revolution-High Yielding Climate-Smart cocoa farms” project team in the design of the training system, training tools and training roll-out program, in close coordination with the Business Training Manager;
•Implement the delivery of the training program, focused on sustainable agriculture and the SAN Standard and climate smart agriculture, in both regions;
•Disseminate information and socialize about Rainforest Alliance Certification in both regions;
•Implement the delivery of the training program, focused on business skills and financial literacy, in both regions;
•Provide on-going support, training and coaching to lead farmers and Olam trainers on farmer business skills and financial literacy topics in both regions, help them with difficulties, discuss learning and provide further information, to maintain the quality of content;
•Ensure proper follow up, training, coaching and support to all the project’s training activities in the region where the position is based, through collecting monitoring project compliance data, proposing and discussing changes with the project team, and by implementing changes in the training program as needed;
•Exchange experiences across Rainforest Alliance and improve methodologies and tools used in the financial literacy component;
•Support communication with local stakeholders and government;
•Support communication efforts about the project, by contributing with blogs, success stories, pictures etc; and;
•Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
•First-hand knowledge of the concepts of farm management, financial literacy and farmer business skills;
•Minimum 2 years relevant experience;
•Understanding of business and value chains and experience in working with cocoa producer group (CPG) and/or factories as well as farmers; knowledge of the cocoa sector preferred;
•Familiarity with smallholder finance and credit issues;
•Portfolio of available financial literacy training curricula and business plan is a plus;
•Strong verbal and written communication skills in Bahasa language and English required;
•Strong organizational and logistical skills to manage training agendas and related travel in a time sensitive manner required;
•Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to operate efficiently with trainers, farmers, donor representatives and/or company executives;
•Administrative efficiency, with ability to track project progress and prepare timely reports, and competence in main computer software programs; and;
•Willingness and ability to travel up to 30 percent of time, nationally
