Indonesia: Job Vacancy: Accountant


APHR is seeking an Accountant. The position will be based in Jakarta.

ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR) was founded in June 2013 with the objective of protecting the human rights of the people of ASEAN. A member-based organisation made up of parliamentarians and influential persons from across Southeast Asia, APHR represents a regional response to human rights concerns, utilizing the specific characteristics and abilities of its members to advocate for rights protections and democratic accountability.


APHR works closely with and supports the work of civil society and human rights defenders and encourages sustainable solutions that increase pressure on governments and multilateral bodies to ensure accountability and uphold and enforce international human rights laws.


This dynamic and young organization is looking for an Accountant, to be based in Jakarta.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities


APHR is looking to recruit an experienced professional with demonstrated experience with accounting and financial management, preferably within the not-for-profit field, to take on the role of accountant of this young and dynamic organisation. The right candidate will be motivated, with a demonstrated eye for detail and ability to work well under pressure during occasionally busy periods.


The Accountant will be responsible for the overall financial management and accounting of the organization – from implementation of existing procedures to the development and improvement of all finance-related matters.


The Accountant will be in charge of implementing all financial operations, maintaining accurate records of all expenditures and providing timely and accurate reports to APHR management as well as external stakeholders and auditors.


The Accountant is also responsible for documenting, recording and reporting APHR’s annual taxes and assisting the Programme Manager during the annual audit process. The accountant will also be responsible for updating and improving APHR accounting procedures and other related aspects of the organisation, including internal approval and financial management processes.


Finance Management


· Oversee the financial operations of the organization and ensure timely and accurate financial reports and practices including cash management, payroll, financial disbursements, ledgers etc.


· Responsible for entering financial information and maintaining all financial records for projects and for the organization.


· Preparing and maintaining donor agreements and staff contracts.


· Manage financial control, prepare and analyze budgets, develop financial reports, and make recommendations to the organization on budget expenditures.


· Obtain approvals from the Director and from the donors on all procurements and purchases for the projects and for the organization.


· Monitor the expenditures to ensure that program funds are utilized appropriately by the close of the fiscal year.


· Provide orientation and training to the organization staff on cost-effective management.


· Ensure that all financial reporting is completed on time and submitted to donors.


· Oversee the financial audits of all projects of the organization.


· Provide financial inputs for proposal development, project management, Human Resource Management policies, logistics, travel and other areas of administration.


· Assisting Executive Director and Program Manager to develop annual budget.


· Working with staff members to develop activity budgets.


Administrative and Logistics


· Inventory and ordering office supplies and equipment.


· Maintainging filing of finance documents.


· Collecting and documenting personnel files.


· Assisting the Logistic and Admin Officer to manage the office where necessary (purchasing staff and office equipment)


Qualifications and Experience


Required


· Accounting degree with a minimum three years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within a not-for-profit setting;


· Fluency in Bahasa Indonesian and strong and demonstrated ability to communicate in written and spoken English;


· Ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.


· Expert knowledge and experience of using accounting software, including QuickBooks.


· Demonstrated attention to detail.


Desirable


· Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of APHR.


· Fluency in written and spoken English.


Working Conditions / Salary and Benefits


· The Accountant will be based in Jakarta and will have to be eligible to work in Indonesia.


· APHR operates on a standard five-day work week but staff may be required to work some evenings and weekends to monitor program activities and when on missions. Days in lieu will be provided for non-standard workdays.


· APHR offers a competitive local salary package with health benefits.


· An initial contract will be for 6-months, with a three-month probationary period. A 12-month contract will then be offered, dependant on donor funding.
