To assume responsibility for safe operation of processing facilities, directing and controlling activities to ensure efficiency and optimal metal recovery. Essential job duties include:


Demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision and to effectively plan, coordinate and complete individual projects in addition to maintaining daily production responsibilities


Assist with planning and preparation of budgets. Monitor performance against budget and time schedule. Monitor and review costs. Provide accurate explanations of budget variance


Assist in developing departmental procedure and policies. Edit and approve all process standard operating procedures. Administer and enforce compliance to company policy and state and federal laws


Remain abreast of current developments in the mineral processing discipline through industry contacts and professional organizations. Implement best practices where applicable


Communicate department status with supervisors and interface with other departments. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports


Interact with process maintenance and electrical foremen, metallurgists, metallurgical and assay lab technicians, carbon handlers, refiners, instrumentation techs, HSLP, environmental, materials management, HR, surface operations, engineering and others to ensure optimal, safe through-put and recovery


Adhere to the principles of planned preventative maintenance, ensuring that equipment failures are the exception and plant life is maximized by sound capture of plant history and detailed planning


Work with outside vendors and Newmont personnel during new installation design, construction and start-up. Continually coordinate work with Process Maintenance to ensure optimal operations and minimal down-time


Order supplies and equipment, schedule work orders and coordinate preventative maintenance


Supply technical assistance to ensure metal recoveries and reagent consumption remain at optimal levels


Must comply with state and federal health and safety regulations, company policies and procedures and the company’s environmental compliance policy. Ensure direct reports and their reports do the same


Conduct safety meetings, staff meetings and safety inspections. Demonstrate a strong personal commitment to safety and the environment and the ability to work safely on a daily basis


Develop a technically competent and credible team which will continuously improve the process operation. Provide training and growth opportunities to challenge team members while accomplishing objectives. Provide mentoring and participate in management line-of-progression planning


Participate in the hourly review process. Evaluate performance, provide feedback and help establish goals for salaried staff. Complete Leadership Pipeline assessments for direct reports and assist as needed for indirect exempt and non-exempt reports


Participate in interviewing prospective employees, conducting site-specific orientation for new hires or transfers, and overseeing training


Schedule PTO, conduct or assist with investigations as needed, administer discipline where required


May be required to travel to other Newmont sites, domestic or foreign, to provide expertise and assistance to processing operations


Respond to emergencies that could cause injury or loss to production

Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering or relevant field and seven (7) years’ experience OR twelve (12) years related experience


At least six (6) years in a supervisory position desired
