Marketing Contract Analyst - Sempra LNG - San Diego, CA



Sempra LNG is an indirect subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE), a Fortune 500 energy services holding company based in San Diego, California ( www.Sempra.com ). Since 2004, Sempra LNG has developed two LNG regasification terminals and a natural gas liquefaction export facility. Sempra LNG also manages 3.7 Mtpa of LNG supply from Tangguh in Indonesia. Sempra LNG developed one of the first liquefaction facilities in the U.S. at the site of its existing Cameron LNG regasification terminal in Louisiana. The Cameron Liquefaction Project ( www.CameronLNG.com ), a 3-train $10 billion investment by affiliates of Sempra LNG (50.2%), Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (16.6%), GDF SUEZ S.A. (16.6%) and Mitsubishi Corporation (through a company jointly established with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK)) (16.6%), will have a nominal capacity of 13.5 Mtpa. Construction commenced in July 2014 and full commercial operations of all three trains is expected by the end of 2018. Sempra LNG also developed and operated the first LNG regasification terminal on the west coast of Mexico, Energia Costa Azul, which commenced operations in 2008 with 7.4 Mtpa of capacity.

Sempra LNG has initiated the development of potential liquefaction projects including Cameron Train 4/5 Expansion project, a liquefaction project at its Port Arthur, Texas site, and a liquefaction project at the site of the Energia Costa Azul LNG regasification terminal in Mexico. Additionally, Sempra LNG is evaluating additional regasification and related infrastructure projects in support of its LNG business.

The Marketing Contract Analyst will continuously assess existing processes, including all trade capture systems, to improve business controls, operational processes and efficiencies related to marketing contract management. Provide back-up function for day-to-day activities related to marketing contracts. The analyst must possess understanding of a set of complex contracts and their interdependencies to be able to perform day-to-day activities related to existing contracts. The analyst must demonstrate strong understanding of Front and Back Office function and related controls.

  • Review and access existing trade capture system; ensure that all transactions associated with existing marketing contracts are reflected and accounted for in the Energy Trading Risk System. Resolve any discrepancies in a timely and efficient manner to meet required deadlines. Work with Back Office to ensure accuracy of payment/invoices for contract transactions.

  • Provide back-up function for day-to-day operations of Sempra LNG’s existing natural gas and LNG sales and purchase contracts. Ensure performance of all contract requirements and monitor compliance with contract terms. Complete daily, weekly, monthly and etc. transactions as required by the contract.

  • Provide and assist with recommendations for improving existing operational processes and efficiencies related to contract management; implement and communicate changes within organization.

  • Perform other duties as assigned (e.g. records retention schedule, preparation of Regulatory/Compliance Reports and other functions as needed).

  • Maintain close and cordial relationships with all contract and internal counterparties.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

External Qualifications:
Education: BS/BA degree in business, accounting, finance, economics, engineering, science or an analytical field.

Experience: Require a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in energy, contracts management or business process controls. Familiarity with IT related systems preferred.


Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities:


  • Working knowledge of gas supply and price fundamentals

  • Ability to prioritize, organize and work on multiple tasks and projects

  • Excellent analytical skills to distill a large volume of data and information into a few key pertinent drivers

  • Must have the ability to identify issues, analyze data, develop, recommend, and implement solutions

  • Selects appropriate means of communication; questions to seek clarification and understanding; maintains confidentiality; listens actively to others; conveys appropriate information to others.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software, Outlook Email, Instant Messaging, high degree of comfort in utilizing other software and operational IT systems

  • High degree of expertise in IT and business control process engineering

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
