Contract, Equivalent to P-2 Level

Duty Station : Jakarta, Indonesia

Entry on Duty : 16 September 2015

Duration : Initially to 31 December 2015 with possibility of extension

Annual Fee Range : starting from USD 48,000 – USD 108,000

Closing Date : 28 August 2015


Duties and Responsibilities


Under the direct supervision of the Senior Protection Officer and the overall supervision of the Representative, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

1. Undertake monitoring visits within Jakarta and to other locations, particularly Aceh and North Sumatera Provinces, to compile information on activities being implemented in relation to UNHCR’s response to the Bay of Bengal situation;

2. Keep track of maritime movements into or from Indonesia, analyse their impact on the operation, and regularly update the Office’s maritime movements matrix accordingly;

3. Draft detailed and well-written reports of activities being undertaken, highlighting progress made toward meeting the objectives of the operation;

4. Prepare detailed and well-written reports to donors and UNHCR Headquarters on the implementation of activities being funded to provide protection and assistance to UNHCR’s persons of concern (PoCs);

5. Prepare internal or external presentations covering the operation, including boat movements and their impact, using Microsoft PowerPoint;

6. Conduct regular monitoring visits to community accommodation facilities and immigration detention centers to assess the needs of PoCs in relation to activities being implemented;

7. Perform other duties as required.


Qualifications/Requirements


Education: A university degree in Law, Political Science, Social Work, Journalism, or related discipline.


Experience: Four (4) years of work experience in a similar area or in the wider human rights field. Experience working in a multi-cultural environment or international context is an asset.


Nationality: As this is an international position all nationalities other than Indonesian will be considered.


Languages: Excellent knowledge of English (written and oral) highly essential; knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia or other UN languages is an asset.


Desirable Skills: Good written and oral communication skills; computer literacy; good knowledge of UNHCR’s protection mandate; understanding of interviewing techniques; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


Working Relationships


(i) Within UNHCR involving the exchange of a wide range of information;

(ii) With external parties: local authorities, NGOs, and international organizations.
