Duties:
Provide Global Health, Safety and Loss Prevention (HSLP) Strategies, Policy, Systems, Standards and Practices to lead the HSLP implementation for Newmont’s mining operations in North America. Conduct audits on all assigned areas for HSLP compliance. Identify risk of potential loss and evaluate the risk in such loss exposure. Develop and implement plans to correct or prevent loss. Audit the loss correction plan to ensure its effectiveness. Provide direction in programs and ensure that a common and effective approach exists for the HSLP function. Assist in preparation of annual budgets and ensure minimization of costs for his area of responsibility. Identify HSLP training needs and ensure that the Loss Control philosophy is maintained. Work in close cooperation with local authorities, ensure that MSHA and state inspections are properly coordinated. Manage, monitor and develop HSLP staff.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Requires a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety. Post-Bachelor’s experience (3 years with Master’s or 5 years with Bachelor’s) is required in mining industry health and safety, hazardous materials management, emergency & rapid response, industrial hygiene, occupational health and risk management, which must include application of the Newmont Loss Causation Model or an equivalent Accident Investigation Model and recommendations to management on implementation of OSHAS 18000. Experience in development of training/educational materials for surface and underground mining operations is also required.
